MASSE CALLS ON MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENT TO RELEASE JOINT REVIEW REPORT ON PROPOSED DEEP GEOLOGIC REPOSITORY (DGR) IMMEDIATELY

OTTAWA, ON –          Official Opposition Border and Great Lakes CriticBrian Masse M.P. (Windsor West) called on the Minister of Environment, Leona Aglukkaq, to immediately release the Canadian Environmental Assessment Report from the Joint Review Panel that was tabled with the Minister today.  As required by the Joint Review Panel Agreement, the Minister must make the report public.

In a letter to the Minister, Masse emphasized the need for the public to review the recommendations by the Panel and for the Minister to carefully weigh the opinions of both Canadians and Americans who will ultimately be affected by this decision.

He stated, “Due to the seriousness of this project, and the impact that it will have on the residents surrounding Lake Huron and the Great Lakes basin, and out of respect for our partners in the United States who are deeply concerned, please do the right thing and release the report publicly and immediately.”
