MASSE CONTINUES FIGHT AGAINST HARPER-MCGUINTY TAX GOUGE
HST will damage the economy during this time of recession while passing the bill to consumers

Ottawa, On- Brian Masse, M. P. (Windsor West) and NDP Industry, Automotive, and Border Critic, spoke in the House of Commons today condemning the Ontario Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) grab of the conservative and liberals, echoing the increasing outrage of local residents. Below is the statement that was read in the House of Commons.

“Mr. Speaker, many working people in Ontario are losing their jobs and struggling to make ends meet due to the recession’s damaging effects in this province.

The Prime Minister has chosen this moment to use $4.3 billion to bribe the McGuinty Liberals, endorsed by the federal liberals, to impose an obscene tax gouge of ordinary Ontarians. This massive tax grab will cost the average resident more than $ 300 dollars per year to heat their homes and fill their gas tanks alone. The eight percent increase in the cost of everything from funerals to car repairs, hair cuts, school supplies, even retirement savings, is the exact opposite of economic stimulus- suffocation and strangulation.

The Prime Minister’s HST deal with the Liberals will shift the tax burden from price gouging oil companies and profiteering banks onto families and consumers. McGuinty’s Liberals have gone into deficit to cut corporate taxes by more than $4.5 billion. Just like the conservatives while passing the bill on to Canadian workers and consumers. This is an outrage.

In fact it is so outrageous that the finance minister’s own wife has copied the NDP opposition in having a petition against the Conservative-Liberal tax gouge, proving once again that there is no difference between liberals and conservatives.“
