Student to lead protest against station closing

St. Clair College student Kyle Parent is angry that his favourite TV station may close, so he's organizing a protest outside A Channel.

The 22-year-old Windsor man is rallying support on an Internet Facebook site for his demonstration Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m. outside CHWI-TV at Ouellette Avenue and University Avenue East.

MP Brian Masse has already agreed to be there, and Parent is hoping more politicians ui.

"I've been watching CHWI most of my life," he said. The station went on the air in 1993 when Parent was seven. "I don't know where I'd be without Jim Crichton giving me the news every night."

CTVglobemedia Inc. announced last week it would not be seeking renewal of the licences for CHWI and Wingham's CKNX-TV when they expire Aug. 31.
