MASSE TAKES CONSERVATIVES TO TASK AS HARPER ACTIVELY NEGOTIATES REDUCED TARIFFS ON ASBESTOS EXPORTS TO THE DEVELOPING WORLD

STATEMENT IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS: Brian Masse MP-Asbestos Exports

Mr. Speaker,

These Conservatives sit on their hands as their Prime Minister exports cancer to the developing world.

Apparently it isn’t enough that the government dumps hundreds of thousands of tonnes of cancer-causing asbestos onto developing countries every year.

Now a trade official confirms that Canada wants India to drop its 10% duty on Canadian asbestos exports.

While other countries are banning or restricting the deadly material, this Prime Minister is actively seeking ways to profit even further from it.

Mr. Speaker,

Canadians don’t want us exporting cancer.

Scientists and doctors say it’s wrong.

Even Conservative MPs know its unconscionable.

But instead of exercising their free-speech.  They sit on their hands.

Too afraid to speak up.

Mr. Speaker,

these MPs came here to change Ottawa, instead Ottawa changed them.

As they sit and allow cancer exports to other countries, it’s clear they’ve become everything they used to oppose.
