MASSE TO TRUDEAU: “SOME COMMUNICATION WOULD BE HELPFUL”
Trudeau Government Fails to Grasp Gravity or Scope of Issues Impacted
February 3rd, 2017 - 4:26pm
WINDSOR - Brian Masse M.P. (Windsor West) has written the Prime Minister to clarify the full scope of the recent Executive Order limiting travel into the United States from President Trump. In the letter Masse continues to work to impress upon the Trudeau Government the massive impacts of Donald Trump’s Executive Order restricting travel into the United States. Unfortunately, the Trudeau Government seems unable to grasp the full scope of the impacts felt in Canada.
Canada and the United States have several agreements facilitating bi-lateral trade and travel including a mutual understanding of the admissibility of people with a variety of backgrounds travelling back and forth across the border for a variety of legitimate reasons.
Masse talked about the unique historic relationship between Canada and the United States regarding cooperative border administration and the new realities under President Trump: “Canada and the United States share the longest undefended border in the world. Trump’s unilateral and racially motivated actions have created chaos at the border to the detriment of both Canada and the United States. Worse, our Government has yet to show any meaningful urgency with respect to clarifying the full scope of the impact of the Travel Ban. It is deeply concerning that the Trudeau Government seems to fail to grasp the gravity of this issue.”
Recently Masse wrote the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada urging him to clarify questions around on-going access to cross-border emergency medical services, after stakeholders in the Windsor-Essex region began raising concerns. Today Masse wrote the Prime Minister along with the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness after he was apprised by a Canadian Permanent Resident that his membership in the Canada-US Trusted Traveller Program had been revoked as a result of the Trump Travel Ban.
“Trump has made it very clear, he hopes to increase investment in the United States by reducing investment in Canada. Reducing supply chain capacity by fiat is a deliberate strategy. The Trudeau government needs to wake up to this reality immediately.” Masse added.
