Local fallout feared
MP Brian Masse says he fears $150 million in federal money aimed at easing Windsor's border traffic crisis may be in jeopardy with Tuesday's decision by Prime Minister Paul Martin to freeze spending on capital projects. "I think we have to question this right away," said Masse (NDP -- Windsor West). "It says all capital projects are frozen for review. I want them to tell me it's not." But Masse says Windsor cannot withstand any further delays on the $300-million joint federal-provincial border funds."I'm not going to sit around and wait to find out if the border money is affected by this," he said. "I'm going to speak up now." Mayor Eddie Francis said he's not concerned about the government putting a temporary freeze on spending, something that happened at Windsor city hall when he became mayor and a common practice in business. "All levels of government recognize the importance of the border and the importance of the file," Francis said.
